NYC Sunny Bronzer - Yay or Nay?

When you're as fair as I am, bronzer is a necessity! Not only does it add warmth to my super light skin tone, it adds depth and life. If I could only wear three products on my face, bronzer would be one of those three!
The product that I wish to write about today, is an inexpensive one that can be found at most drugstores. Depending on how it's used, it can be a staple to almost anyone on a budget. You already know which bronzer I am talking about by the title of this post - NYC Sunny Bronzer.

Where you can get it: Target, Wal-Mart - basically any drugstore.
Price: $2 - $3
Pros: Affordable(obviously); blend-ability; packaging has a mirror; sleek compact; easy to find.
Cons: Shade - if it's applied with a heavy hand it can look very orange, especially on us with lighter skin-tones. This can leave someone looking like they got a very bad spray tan! The texture is a little gritty, it's not as smooth as the name on the product would suggest.
This isn't a bronzer that I can reach for easily due to the orange undertones in it. I have to be very careful when applying and make sure I don't look like an oompa loompa. When I do apply this with a light hand, this product gives my skin a sun-kissed, warm look. The fact that this is a matte finish makes it more forgiving...but I still have a hard time working with this product.

It looks deceiving in the pan, making you think that it's not going to pack the bronzing punch this does! The only way that I can pull this off, is with a very fluffy brush and blending the bronzer out. I wouldn't recommend using this as a contour shade, because of the orange undertone, even if you are deeper in skin-tone. I prefer a lot of my other bronzer over this one and don't reach for this often. It's a great bronzer, but again for me - it is just the wrong tone.
There's a rumor going around that this bad boy is being discontinued and NYC is coming out with a product slightly different. I hope that they come out with bronzers with better undertones! I'm not sure if this rumor is true, but I guess we will find out!

The swatch to the left shows the orange tone to this product. This was swatched using my finger and I blended it out. As you can tell, it would give me a bad self tanner look if I don't blend! I'm kind of a no fuss kind of gal, so having to spend what feels like a million years working with a product to get it to work, is NOT what I look forward to. I would much rather reach for my Physician Formula bronzers that I can find at the drugstore or my Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow.
So, overall I would say that you could skip out on this and save the few dollars to put toward a bronzer that will look flawless without the worry that you like you left the Chocolate Factory!
So, other affordable recommendations would be Physicians Formula Bronze Booster, Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer (#1), NYX Matte Bronzer, or the Rimmel Natural Bronzer.
Good luck to you if you are searching for that staple, affordable bronzer! If you have one that you would recommend, leave me a comment on Instagram - Jessmorris1013 - so I can try it out!
Thanks for stopping by!
